Salon commissions
Hair stylist and nail technician commission: gross vs. net
Ogedex editorial team · · Read in Portuguese
Define the commission base, apply the agreed percentage and reconcile deductions separately so staff can understand their period statement.
Agree on the base before multiplying
A commission percentage is incomplete unless everyone understands the amount it applies to. Gross service revenue and revenue after specified fees are different bases. Record the business arrangement clearly and check applicable employment and tax requirements separately.
This is calculation guidance, not a recommendation for a lawful compensation structure in any jurisdiction. Do not change an agreed basis retroactively because a different result looks better.
Two fictional calculations
For a fictional service priced at 100 units and an agreed 40% gross commission, the calculation is 100 × 0.40 = 40 units. If the agreement instead uses a base after a 3-unit processing fee, the calculation is 97 × 0.40 = 38.80 units.
Neither example establishes which basis your business should use. Confirm which fees, discounts or other items belong in the actual agreement and ensure the software configuration matches it. Show the calculation rather than only the final amount.
Different services and adjustments
- Check whether each service has its own percentage.
- Review discounts and the agreed commission base.
- Keep advances and staff purchases separately identifiable.
- Check canceled or corrected transactions.
- Reconcile the statement with service and payment records before closing the period.
Using Ogedex for the statement
Ogedex supports commissions by professional and service, with advances and consumption adjustments. Test a fictional service and correction before relying on a real closing statement. A receipt in the cash register and an amount due to a professional are different records.
Let the professional review the period and resolve differences from original entries. The software does not establish employment status, replace payroll compliance or decide which deductions may be made. Those questions need separate qualified review.
