Online scheduling for lawyers: requests and initial consultations
Ogedex editorial team · · Read in Portuguese
Create a clearer administrative booking path while distinguishing appointment requests from accepted engagements and specialist legal work.
A booking request is not acceptance of a matter
A prospective client may request an initial conversation before the office determines whether it can assist. State clearly when the requested time still requires approval. Do not let the booking page imply that submitting a form creates an accepted legal engagement.
This guide is about administration, not legal advice or professional responsibility rules. The office must independently manage conflicts, confidentiality, engagement and jurisdiction-specific obligations. A calendar is not a substitute for those checks.
Keep the public request focused
Ask only for the information needed to identify and arrange the request through an appropriate process. Do not invite confidential case documents into a general public booking field without a verified legal and privacy basis. Explain what happens next and which communication channel the office uses.
Fictional example: reception receives a preferred time and assigns a review task. Only after the office approves does the requester receive an accepted appointment with the actual location or meeting instructions.
Before the first meeting
- Verify the responsible professional and full duration.
- Confirm the appointment state, not just a message delivery.
- Send discreet administrative details without naming the matter.
- Record any agreed fee arrangement separately and accurately.
- Review access permissions before adding client notes or documents.
What Ogedex does not replace
Ogedex can organize appointment requests, professional calendars, CRM and tasks. It is not a specialist legal deadline, court-filing or case-management platform, and it does not perform conflict checks.
Its document and proposal features do not establish US legal or privacy suitability. Evaluate with fictional data and have the responsible professionals review the actual requirements before entering confidential information. Keep an accepted appointment distinct from an accepted engagement.
